A fortnight in San Francisco, California

Visit San Francisco with your family

It has always been on your bucket list and you won’t struggle for reasons to visit san Francisco with your family. First of all, it has got lots of outdoor activities among which some are free what should help you keep cost down. Conversely when it comes to museums, they are kid- friendly.

The Golden Gate Bridge

Let’s start our journey with the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the getaway to SF. I highly recommend walking or cycling it. Looking for an amazing photo? I am guessing you had Battery Lancaster in mind, why not Baker Beach or Eagle Point Labyrinth? Wrapped in its mist the bridge which stretches over 1,7 mile will stand out.

San Francisco's cable cars

In order to make the most of your visit to Frisco, make sure you take the cable cars. At the beginning the cars were pulled by horses. The town of san Francisco planned to banish them in 1947, fortunately enough women opposed the decision and the cable cars have remained! They are usually packed and among the passengers you ‘ll find mostly tourists but it will transport you into the past!

Golden gate park

Golden Gate Park happens to be the world largest park even bigger than Central Park. That’s the reason why you won’t believe it attracts 13 million visitors a year! Don’t miss the Japanese Tea Garden and House. At night the ferries wheels offer a view which goes from downtown San Francisco to the Pacific Ocean.

Painted ladies

Painted Ladies have become symbolic of a trip to San Francisco. The 7 Victorian houses on Steiner Street look like dull houses with their vivid colors. If you want to combine a stroll under streets or a picnic, opt for Alamo square at their foot. In 2014 one of these old houses was sold for as much as 3,1 million US $.

Twin Peaks (925 feet).

It sounds familiar to you due to the quirky American series. Either you drive there by car following the scenic 49-mile Drive or you hike there. In that case the starting point is located on Market Street. The trail is not said to be difficult and it is worth the climb because Twin Peaks boast the most fantastic view over San Francisco and the sea.

Lombard street for the thrill.

If you appreciate movies that include car chases or hill starts, you will love it. The winding streets may remind you of Steve McQueen as Police Officer Bullit. This time you may put your life in the hands of an experimented man, a taxi driver! If you are rather bold, don’t hesitate to rent a car!

China Town

China Town is a must-visit too. It represents the largest Chinese community outside Asia. Go under the dragon’s door and you will feel the pulse of antique China. Dating back to the years 1850, this is the oldest Chinese migration to the US. It is impressive how they kept their culture alive though the times: worship places, food stalls…

Pier 39

If you like animals, you will enjoy watching sea lions sunbathing. For those who are fond of history, visit USS Pampanito, a submarine which was used at Pearl Harbor unless you prefer seeing a liberty ship at Fisherman’s Warf nearby. Built in 1943 in New England she is a survivor of the D-Day armada off the coast of Normandy.
